Leigh Bercaw is the sole farmer and founder of Blue Fingers. Her career in agriculture germinated from a BA in Anthropology from Macalester College, where she studied the intersection between subsistence agriculture and conservation practices. That interest bloomed in 2014 during her first season as a field hand on Red Wagon Farm in Boulder, Colorado. After a few years working seasonally as a farmhand, she landed in North Idaho and started a small diversified farm on rented land in Priest River. She hacked her way through the early years of entrepreneurship through simultaneously starting a sourdough bread and lacto-fermented condiment business at the Sandpoint Farmer’s Marketā€¦leading to her nickname “The Bread Lady.” She in an instructor at the Sandpoint Organic Agriculture Center, where she has been teaching a class to University of Idaho students on regenerative market gardening for 5 years. In 2019 she bought an empty pasture four miles outside of Sandpoint with Steve Parsons, where they have been building a log cabin and Blue Fingers Farm.
